What the Mini 6 does
Most air conditioners in the Gulf, Asia and Europe were never designed for the 24V thermostats sold in North America. A Nest or ecobee expects a set of wires marked R, C, W, Y and G. A Daikin, LG or Mitsubishi Electric indoor unit expects its own wired remote, talking over its own connector. The Mini 6 sits between the two. On one side it plugs into the indoor unit's control connector. On the other it gives the thermostat a standard 24V terminal set, with power built in.
The thermostat then works as it was designed to. It sets the temperature, runs schedules, switches cooling, heating and fan, and shows up in its own app. Nothing inside the AC unit is modified, and the indoor unit keeps its own protections.
When IR is used instead of a wire
Some indoor units have no accessible wired control port. For those, the Mini 6 has a built-in infrared transmitter that sends commands the same way a handheld remote does. Wired control is preferred where it exists, because it doesn't need a line of sight to the unit.
Where it gets installed
At 54 by 54 by 24.5 mm, the Mini 6 fits behind the thermostat, above the ceiling, or next to the indoor unit. It takes mains power at 100 to 240V, 50 or 60Hz, so the same adapter works on Gulf, UK and European supplies. A red LED shows power and a green LED shows thermostat signal, which makes commissioning quick.
Mini 6 or Mini 6S?
Choose the Mini 6 when the thermostat will be the only controller for the room. Choose the Mini 6S when you want to keep the original AC controller on the wall for status and fault codes, or when the indoor unit uses a two-wire or three-wire bus such as Daikin P1/P2.
Questions about the Mini 6
Do I need one Mini 6 per room?
Yes. One Mini 6 connects one indoor unit to one thermostat. A villa with six indoor units needs six adapters and six thermostats.
Can I keep my AC remote?
The thermostat becomes the main controller. If you want the original wired controller to stay on the wall, the Mini 6S is the better fit.
Does it need a C wire?
No separate transformer or C wire run is needed. The Mini 6 supplies 24V power to the thermostat over the same cable.
